Gerry Moshofsky, Newood's CEO, states, "Four foot, five level sections were tested with weight equivalent to 30 cases of wine, without permanent deformation." Also, the units were subjected to a standardized test developed by the Consortium of Universities for Research in Earthquake Engineering and an ever increasing lateral force until failure (monotonic test.)
During the monotonic test, the fully loaded units survived lateral forces up to approximately 1.2 times the force of gravity (1.2g). While the forces are site specific, a typical design force for an area with strong seismic activity is approximately .7g. In addition to seismic rating, Newood is also evaluating fire-rated finishes as an option.
